Gary S. Forshner, Shareholder in Stark & Stark’s Real Estate, Zoning & Land Use Group, was quoted in the article, Rebuilding Homes May Not Be Easy, in the Asbury Park Press on November 16, 2012.

The article discusses the difficult road ahead for the many New Jersey residents who lost homes during the recent superstorm Sandy.   This unexpected storm left some residents with uninhabitable land, some being told that they will not be allowed to rebuild on their property, as insurance policies may not provide enough funds to cover the costs of new building standards, new rules may prohibit rebuilding in some flood zones, or existing zoning rules may no longer permit new homes to be built in the same locations or with the same specifications as the old home. Those that will be able to rebuild may be facing significant expenses coupled with a long and tedious mending period ahead.

Mr. Forshner states, “Municipal officials … in some cases don’t even have an office to report to anymore.  If you go to one of these Shore towns where they have hundreds, if not thousands, of homes that have been knocked down, an issue simple as a building permit is going to be a major problem.”
